Some decisions
will affect the municipality
for decades to come.

An independent expert partner for municipalities and cities

We help municipalities and cities to prepare a project feasibility study, draw up the correct project brief, select a contractor and supervise the implementation.

Arrange an initial meeting —

A square full of people

01 — Place and public space

The municipality only invests a few times in a generation.

A square, a school, a park, a new street. Quality is determined right from the start, in the brief.

We are approached by municipalities which:

  • are planning to transform a square, village green or street,
  • are considering what to do with the council building: repair it, rebuild it or sell it,
  • They have the opportunity to receive a grant, but the plan is not yet clear,
  • They need an independent assessment of the proposal or study.

02 — Location and buildings

A place isn’t just about its façade.

Schools, government offices, libraries and cultural centres are just as much a part of a place as the spaces around them, and people use them every day. Squares, streets and public buildings form a single whole.

We will assess the technical condition of the building. The result will provide a basis for deciding whether to repair, redevelop or find a new use for the building. We focus on:

  • the technical condition of structures and technical equipment, including a calculation of repair costs,
  • the current use of the building and future possibilities,
  • the building’s relationship to public spaces such as a square, a street or a park,
  • the order of repairs and their alignment with the municipality’s investment plan.

03 — How we work

From analysis
to brief.

  1. 01

    Map of Issues and Values

A survey of the public space and buildings on site, and interviews with people who use the area. We will identify both the problems and the positive aspects.

  2. 02

    Best practice

What issues to address, in what order and using which tools, in line with the land-use plan.

  3. 03

    A quick check

Where appropriate, we will first test the solution by making a temporary modification. For buildings, we will recommend a phased implementation plan.

  4. 04

    Brief

We will draw up a structured brief for the investment project with a view to selecting a designer and a contractor through a public procurement procedure or other competitive tender.

  5. 05

    Implementation

Selection of a contractor, budget monitoring and client's site supervision.

We coordinate the process as a whole. You can start with any step.

Depending on the nature of the project, we will bring in specialists with whom we have a long-standing working relationship: landscape architects, transport engineers, structural engineers, participation specialists and others.
